72’ Research Vessel  LIGHTNING

Lightning2The Oceanographic Research Vessel LIGHTNING is a safe and stable vessel for conducting hydrographic, geophysical, geotechnical, and ROV surveys in California offshore coastal waters.  The R/V LIGHTNING is a fiberglass Westport trawler built in 1980 and completely re-modeled in 2006.  Powered by twin diesel engines, the LIGHTNING has a cruising speed of 10-knots and a range of 800-miles.  The 40-ton vessel features a bow thruster, telescoping crane, removable A-frame, and 35’ x 18’ of clear aft deck space.  For the crew’s comfort, the LIGHTNING has a full galley, dining area, berthing for 6, full-size bathroom, and shower.  Cruise durations of 1-2 weeks are typical.
